Wellwishers fund the 2011 EAWLS End of Year Staff Party

During the November 2011 monthly staff meeting, Chief Administrator Richard Rono broke the good news that, once again, Therese and Bernhard Sorgen, who are the EAWLS Swiss representatives, joined by their friend Maria Fuhrer, had offered to fully sponsor the end of year staff party for the fourth year running.

Their generosity was received with cheer and gratitude.  This did not only symbolise the true spirit of Christmas but a consistent commitment of service and support to EAWLS made through various donations, including office equipment in the last two decades.

The party was planned for 22nd December 2011 and this day would also mark the last working day of the year.

On the afternoon of December 22 we all arrived at Alfajiri Restaurant, the chosen venue for the party. We were ushered in by the Restaurant Manager and the waiters offered us a welcome drink.

After everyone had settled at their tables, Rose the Membership Officer said a prayer and all guests were invited to a sumptuous buffet lunch. The menu contained nyama and kuku choma (roast goat and chicken) among other meats with various vegetable salads with assorted accompaniments crowned by a dessert of fruit salad and ice cream.

After the meals a few officers gave short speeches to acknowledge the sponsors and appreciate the staff and management for their commitment in the past year.  Staff then exchanged Christmas gifts, and the party was officially opened by the Deputy Director, Mr. Michael Gachanja.

There was dancing and plenty to drink. The DJ was Stephen Adongo of Kodongo Sounds, who is also the EAWLS Delivery Clerk.

Thank you Therese, Maria and Bernhard for making our 2011 end of year bash a reality and a memorable one too.

By Richard Rono, Chief Administrator, East Africa Wildlife Society
